| Description | Cordyceps confragosa RCEF 1005 (synonym: Lecanicillium lecanii RCEF 1005) is a filamentous ascomycete fungus that infects insects (entomopathogenic). This group of fungi was first described in 1861 and is found worldwide. Insects are infected when they come into contact with the sticky fungal spores which grow and invade the body, leading to their death. L. lecanii is sometimes used as a biological pesticide for controlling insect pests such as whitefly and aphids in the cultivation of oil seeds, soybeans, ornamentals and vegetables. The genome of Cordyceps confragosa RCEF 1005 was sequenced and compared with 33 species of filamentous ascomycete pathogenic fungi that infect insects, plants, and humans. |
