Description Colletotrichum salicis is a pathogenic plant fungus which is isolated from Salix sp. (Willow) in the Netherlands. It has a preference for woody hosts such as Malus, Acer, Araucaria, Pyrus, Populus and especially Salix). C. salicis is among the few species (another being C. rhombiforme) belonging to genus Colletotrichum which produces sexual fruiting bodies knowns as ascomata bearing ascospores. It is a member of the C. acutatum species complex which includes a range of fungal pathogens that are excellent candidates for studying the process of speciation, host adaptation and the evolution of mating behavior.
