| Description | The filamentous ascomycete fungus Podospora anserine (sordariomycete clade of the pezizomycotina) is easy to culture in the laboratory and can complete its sexual cycle within a week. Consequently it has been utilised as a fungal model in the study of eukaryotic (meiosis, ageing, prion and related protein-based inheritance) and fungal biology (hyphal interference, sexual reproduction and heterokaryon formation). A complete assembly of the nuclear genome predicted to be 36 Mb in size included the mitochondrial genome, a single circular contig of about 95 kb. A combination of semi-automatic and manual annotation identified 10,545 protein coding genes. |
